I have a 98 EB 4WD. The drivers' door will not unlock using keyless entry, remote, nor the switch on the drivers door. It engages the unlock mechanism, but will not unlock.
If I pull the handle from inside, there is a crunching noise when it unlocks. Removed panel, sprayed with WD-40, but did not find anything broken or loose.
Also, the lock can be pushed down, but will not raise to the unlock position when done by hand.
The passenger side will unlock sometimes, and lock sometimes. The rest of the time, it sounds like the motor is trying to perform the function, but runs out of gas. I have a new Die Hard reading full charge, so it isn't the battery. Any suggestions?
Odds are there is something either broken or bent in the assembly. The motor may also be hanging up. You'll have to get in there with a flashlight to see whats going on. The parts to the door locks look like they came out of a chinese childrens toy. Definitely not too heavy duty. Unfortunately the replacement parts seem to be made in some custom shop somewhere. Ford sure is proud of them, judging by their prices. My '98 EB has just about all the cheap plastic and thin metal in it I can stand. It's CRAP. From the self destructing arm rest to the half-*** high dollar radio I'll never buy another one. My '93 makes no pretense at being anything other than what it is. For that reason alone it's a better vehicle. .........sorry about the rant. Oh! Welcome to this site! There are some really great folks here who can really be a big help. And back to your door lock....it could be as simple as a clip on the end of one of the actuator rods that has come loose. You'll just have to study it a bit. Best of luck
