Just changed from the stock oil pressure sensor(electric) to a manual pressure gauge and now I've got questions?
What is the 'stock' oil pressure supposed to be on a 2.3L?
In my 59 w/V8 it's 40psi, on the VW's I've owned 1.6L it's been 40psi, but with my 2.3L I'm getting 60PSI that will gain to about 90PSI at 3000rpm.
Do I have a problem? Is my engine just that tight it can manage this Pressure, or is this NORMAL and I just don't know?
My Ranger runs fine, other than being slugish from a daed stop, probably due to the larger tires I put on, and now that it's gettin' Warm (outside of AZ it would be HOT) at start up it don't wanna jump right to l;ife, usually give it once around and and hit it again and away we go.
At start up the oil press is 60psi and will reach 80psi on acceleration, at 195deg oil press is at 35psi, when you accelertate oil press returns to about 65 psi.
"Stock" oil pressure on the 2.3 is 40-60 psi @ 2000 RPM. I think you are OK as long as the oil consumption is not excessive. Is it using any oil? As long as it is not leaving puddles on the ground, and you aren't adding a quart every 500 miles, I wouldn't worry about it. I would suspect the pressure relief valve on the oil pump before assuming the engine is "tight". Are you blowing black smoke out of the exhaust?
