I'm thinking of a 1996 f250 diesel, how many km is too much, I think it has like 200000km or 120000 miles, don't know anything about the diesel, thanks for your replys
The diesel engine will last a long time, many more miles than a gas engine, but the truck (and transmission) still wears out at the same rate regardless of what kind of engine it has, so buy a truck with a reasonable number of miles for the TRUCK if you don't want to work on it much, and consider the longer-lasting diesel an extra benefit in the deal.
I bought mine 3 1/2 years ago with 137,000 miles on the clock. Now have 208,700+ and like the truck more than when I bought it.
Repairs since bought:
Replaced Valve cover gasket and under valve cover wiring harness R side only
Replaced IPR O Rings
Replaced glow plugs and relay
Replaced starter
Replaced clutch (Knew it needed one when I bought it)
Replaced vacuum pump
Replaced front brake pads (rotors were OK)
Replaced serpentine belt tensioner pulley
Needs the brake/clutch pedal box rebuilt and transmission synchronizers are a little weak due to the pedal box not letting the clutch release all the way.
I am more than happy with it - but then I like to tinker once in a while as well.
