Termites!!!
There I was thinking I was on top of the world, Getting my bills inline and making plans to replace the Crown Vic (180,000+).
The bug guy came by on his quarterly treatment and he finds termites
not much I can do about it except kill the little buggers.
Termites were found in a neighbors house and I have been lucky to have not had them before. Remember Caddy Shack? Bill Murray hated the gopher, I termites.

There is some new type of termite treatment that works by putting bait in holes around the house. You can supposedly do it yourself. Now the damage they have caused might get to be fun.

Well we had the bait cannisters installed around the house. It took 20 cannisters.
Now it gets serious. Today I was washing the garage in preperation for painting it and I needed to replace some of the old masonite. Pulled on a piece and the whole thing fell away with thousands of live termites falling out. I removed the entire side with masonite using unleaded gas to kill the little varmits. They only seemed to eat the masonite and left the plywood and hardwood alone.
The garage is detached which is a good thing. Eric, I found the website that now sells the home cannisters. $300 vs $1500 is quite a difference. I may use them to treat the garage. I assume that both colonys are the subterrian type since the house was found to have a tube that went down into the ground and the garage colony went all the way to the ground and it was 7 feet tall. Tommorrow, I check it again for activity.
The house appears to be ok and I think we got that in time. The garage may be a differnet story. The temites seemed to like the area because it stayed moist and the soft masonite. I removed all loose dirt from around the garage and poured more gas around it to. Yeah, I know gas is not the answer but it sure kills things quick. I removed all soil that was up against the wood material of the garage amd pushed back the soil. Hopefully that will deter them a little.
