Need a Tailgate. Do diff. years fit?

I just bought a 1986 F250 for $100 and it does not have a tailgate. Can other years fit on the bed? What is a good price for one?
I plan to restore this truck, but I need to get it "useful" before I really start a major restore.

I believe 80-86 should fit, but hopefully someone can confirm.

87 and up definitely will not, as they changed the latch style.

I'm pretty sure 80-86 works.

With the later latches, the later gate will work, just in case you find a decent boneyard piece.

I have an 86, and it's currently got an 80 gate on it, so that will absolutely work through the entire range. I got my tailgate for $40.

I found one for $50 and it still has the plastic slot on the right hinge. it has a dent in the center and needs repainted. Is that A good price?
