94 Explorer A/C Question
I have a 94 Explorer with 205,000, and all original A/C parts. In the spring, I charged the system, and it took 3 big cans to fill. It still doesn't seem very cold. The compressor runs OK (comes on, and doesn't cycle on and off like a low fill).
Now, when it's more than 80 degrees outside, it blows warm air, especially when parked in the sun. What's that all about?
If driving at night, in say 78-degree weather, the air is much cooler, but no where near as cold as my motorhome (93 Ford drivetrain).
If I take this for a pressure (vacuum?) leak test, what should I expect them to say is wrong? I don't really want to spend $1000 changing out the whole system (as I hear is standard practice if the compressor goes).
HELP!
Your problem could be anything from a simple o-ring leak to something serious. Looks over the system and see if there are any noticable oily looking seals/o-rings or hoses. Compressor replacement isn't always necessary.
I would expect them to be truthful in their diagnosis, but you gotta watch 'em closely, there's some shady folks out there.
