Hello to all after my long Hiatus.
Heres my issues.Kind of funny in a way too.
Not too long ago the first issue came up.
No brake lights and the rear hazards dont work. Front hazards are fine, the rear bulbs are good to go and I have tail lights and turn signals.
Then a week later, I no longer have tail lights and when I use the turn signals the rear hazards come on instead.
This is very annoying.
I tried troubleshooting but wiring stumps me everytime, most other things I can figure out.
Anyone else ever have this problem.
Any solutions out there before I hand my wallet over to a legit mechanic?
Put a meter on the brake switch to see if there is power to the switch. Then push the pedal down and see if the power comes out of the switch. Then pull out the rear light. On mine there three wires. The black is to ground. The brown is running. The stripe is the turn and stop (if I remember right) . Pull the bulb out and see if you have power to them. Check the ground. Check the turn signal switch in and out. I don't know what truck you have but my 91 150 used to eat light switches. Good luck finding the gremlin. I hate electric.
Before you spend a lot of money on the legit mechanic, check two things. First verify that the ground connections are intact and clean. Secondly, remove all of the running/brake/turn signal bulbs front and rear. Starting at the front put in one bulb at a time and check each function. If your lucky, you may find that the trouble is a bad ground, bulb, or socket.
Hazards & turn signals use the ame bulbs & the same wiring the only difference between the 2 circuits is in the multifunction switch. Since this started out with turn signals working normally, but rear hazards not working the problem is most likely the multifunction (turn signal switch) Testing the switch with an ohm meter is very simple, but you need a wiring diagram to do it.
