I have a 75 ford f150. The current ignition module will start the truck, but it is on it's last leg. I have tried new ones 3 times and the truck will not start, only with the old box. All wires and plugs match. What else could I look at????
There are different ones. They go by color. The parts guy should be able to help you. When mine went out, the guy asked me something like, "Is it the blue one?" I just told him all the info about the motor and truck, and he got it for me. It has been just fine. A friend gave me an msd that a friend gave him. It ended up not working, but I took the rubber mounts off it, and put it on my replacement module. It screwed in, and also, it spaces the module off the fender about 1". I figure this can help with cooling as it has air all around it.
I prefer an MSD dig-6, easy installation and you trade 20 wires for 4-6 (depending on your app.) It also has some nice features like 2 stage rev limiter, soft start, and single stage nitrous support built in. $270 and alot more reliable than a stock box
the blue grommet module is the best one for overall performance.
there is a brown grommet one and at least one other, which i cannot remember.. they are all calibrated diffferently depending on emissions/timing targets.
hi. i just replaced mine with a msd ready to run distributor. works awesome. got rid of the old distributor and box with one unit and the cost was only a bit more. it idles like new now
All,
The other color is yellow. I believe it is for high altitude application?
Secondly, I would concur about the distributor stator pickup coil. It is the forgotten link in the igniton system. It often fails only at temperature.
Consider it,

There are green, blue, and yellow grommets, I think I have heard of a brown and black also but I have never seen one. The best unit to use are the blue grommet units.
There are many advantages to using the stock blue grommet DS-2 system. The cost is MUCH lower than aftermarket units, the parts are easily tested for free at most part stores, and replacement parts are available off the shelf almost everywhere. Dyno tests have proven that the DS-2 units equal or exceed the performance of aftermarket units up thru about 5500 RPM. Use the OEM Motorcraft modules only, the aftermarket units are junk and have given the DS-2 system a bad rep at times. You can find 100% good Motorcraft modules in some scrapyards for free.
