ABS Light and Moisture

Has anyone experienced and solved this problem? I have a '97 F150 4x4 with 5.4L. It has rear only ABS. Whenever it rains, my ABS light comes on. Or, if I run my truck through the car wash the light will come on. It will usually turn back off after truck dries, and maybe 2-3 drive cycles.

When the light is on it appears to brake normal, although I'm sure I don't have ABS working.

Many moons ago, a Ford Service guy told me that the only sensor on the ABS system that ever goes bad is the speed sensor in the rear differential. I changed that, but still have the same problems. I don't even know where the brains to the ABS system is located.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Sounds like possibly a bare wire in the under truck harness that could be grounding when it gets wet.

Thanks

Since I fixed the problem, I thought I would reply in case anyone else has similar problems.

LxMan, you were right. It turned out to be the sensor in the rear differential. The rubber boot had been pulled off the connector to the sensor. I'm sure it was off when I replaced the sensor two years ago. I managed to get the boot put back on, then taped it up with electrical tape. Have gone through enough rain storms to be certain it's fixed. I can't believe I lived with that annoying light (off and on) for two years. Easy fix.

later.
