I have a 96 PSD, 152K, no mods. It will not rev over 2250- even in neutral. The exhaust is clean-no smoke. I have changed the fuel filter & it had a recent oil change (Rotella-T). I disconnected the exhaust ahead of the CAT to check for a clogged cat & there was no change. When driving it feels normal until you try to exceed 2200+ rpm. There is no check engine light. I changed the CPS recently when it had those (it kept stalling) symptoms, after installing the new CPS it drove fine. I have not checked the fuel pressure yet. ANy ideas?
I just realized that I had the tach replaced by my Ford Dealer a few months ago. I doubt if I ever bothered to check & see if it was calibrated correctly across the entire rpm range. It wasn't until I replaced the cam sensor the I tried to rev the engine to the redline. The more I think about it. the engine appears to be fine it's just the gauge that seems incorrect.
I just went out & brought my truck up to speed on the interstate & herer is what I recorded:
tach mph gear
2200 60 2nd
2000 85 3rd
900 50 O/D
1500 88 O/D
I will put a scan tool on next to confirm. It's either a bad signal to the tach/ bad instrument or I've got a PSD that should go 155mph in 3rd if I can believe my tach.
