Question Can I fix this?

OK, heres the deal. When I turn my key to the "start" position, the lights on my dash go out and it dont start. Everything is fine in all the other key position (run, acessory). I have to use a push button starter to get ther runnin. Is there a rod in the column that is busted or something else?

Sounds like the switch is bad. Ford had a lot of trouble with these. It is located on the Steering column just behine where the column enters the dash a rod runs from it to the ignition key. It is adjustable up and down the column which could be the problem. But if you look at the switch and its top has started to seperate from the bottom then it is bad.

If you have tilt steering your problem is more than likely in the column. There is a small horseshoe in there that usually breaks and causes the exact same symptom. If you have a service manual it wont be bad to fix,if not it might get pretty intense.Hope this helps

If it is tilt you will need the shop manual and a big bottle of aspirin. They are a big pain to get apart. Lots of parts to keep track of.
