Water Temperature guage
I have an 89 F-250 Lariat with the 4.9L six. The temperature gauge is DOA. I assume the usual suspects are the sending unit and the gauge itself. OK, fine.. But which is the water temp gauge sender on this model? There are about 6210 different sending units sticking out of the manifolds and block of this thing. (I'm a 60's kinda guy...you know... water temp sender ...oil pressure sender...we're done!)
Any info on the location of the sending unit would be most useful.
Second, question... Assuming I can eventually find the sonovagun...can you test it like in the old days by grounding it out and pegging the gauge or do you have to do something else?
Lastly, I know how to get the dash apart and even get to the gauge. There are 3 poles on it. How do you test it?
Again any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Temperature senders-- There should be two. look for senders new the water outlet on the block. Look for senders that appear to be in the water jacket, probably in the vicinity of the radiator and heater hoses.
The part is cheap (relative). Buy it or go to a parts store and ask to see it. the plug end of it should help you tell the difference. The sender for the gauge is usually a single wire sender. It grounds to the block. The sensor that goes to the EEC-IV likely has two or more wires going to it.
5.0 EFI is near the thermostat housing. Not sure about the 4.9L
