Need some guidance

I just purchased a 1951 F-5, stakebed truck. The body is very straight and soild. This truck was a one owner, and was only used to haul hay. It has been keep in a barn since new. There is hardly any rust! It has the 239 Flathead V-8, with 4290 org. miles. Engine starts and runs like it was new. I was trying to find a source to buy parts. I need just a few things, to restore. I can not find anything that specfies F-5, I was wondering if F-2 parts would be interchange. I have thought instead of a complete restore, to find a late model dually bed and instead of dual rear tires to put a fat tire. I am thinking of doing sort of a pro street, leaving the cab foward orginial (other than pwr steering, and upholestry) and modifing the bed, trans, and rearend. I would like to leave the orginial motor, but however add to it for additional horses. I would like to know if F-2 parts would work, and any suggestions one may have. Thanks in advance. Dustin

Sorry Dustin, I can't tell you for sure. But if you will contact some of the sponsors of this site they may have sources. Also, Mid Fifty or Sac Vintage Ford may help. Good luck, John

Some parts will interchange and some won't. It depends on what you are talking about. The cab and all the sheetmetal forward is the same as an F2. Also true of everything under the hood. Some of the chassis stuff will be different. Does it have the heavy duty 3 speed transmission (floor shift), like my F3? Is the rear axle 2 speed?

It sounds like a great truck; post some pictures in a gallery.

The truck body is very good, and also the drivetrain & rearend. What I need mostly are interior items, welting, weatherstrippings, lights for the stakebed. After trying to find parts to no avail, I have decided to restore the truck back to original condition (they most be rarer then I first thought) I have been trying to find a picture of an original 51 F-5 to help with the restoration, Do you have an idea will I may be able to find one. I have tried ever bookstore in Northeast TN and the all over the web. This truck has a 4 spd tranny, I haven't found what rearend yet though. It is a floor shift.

Look on ebay for a truck sales brochure for 1951 or 1952. I've seen several up for auction. I've got one that shows all models for 1952 F1 through F8. I don't have a scanner, so I can't send you any of it.

That cab interior stuff is the same for all models.

Lazy, go to the Google search machine and search on abebooks.com One of questions asked on the home page of abe will be "Title." Type in "Ford Truck Parts". There are several Ford publications covering 48 - 55 trucks. One of these might help you.
