Question Having alternator problems

I have a 77 F250 that is not charging the battery. With the engine running I have power coming off the alternator, but when you take the + batter cable off, the engine dies.
The wire form the alternator to the relay looks good and has continuity.
Any one have any ideas?
Thanks Brian

You probably screwed the alternator when you disconnected the battery cable.
The diodes are probably fried.

We are still trying to find out why people do this so much these days.

The disconnect the battery thing, is from the OLD DAYS when cars came with generators.
They did it because the generators sometimes needed a *Spike of current* to get them to start charging.

Generators were DC, Alternators are AC.

Please don't do this anymore.

Take the vehicle to a parts house and have it tested for FREE (in truck) and let you know right then & there what the problem is.
