Subwoofer caused detached retina

I worked with a guy, about 19, who would up with a detached retina due to exposure to the loud sub-harmonic frequencies.

I wonder if other symptoms have started trending in you people as well, like heart rhythm disturbance, cerebral hemorrage, or or course, diminished hearing in the high frequency range.

What's that grampa? You'll have to speak up, I don't hear too well anymore.

Nature has a way of sorting out the dumb a's. If society doesn't interfere.

Although not health related I do have a problem ... in residential areas I like to turn up my volume, and scare old people into "marking up" their depends , while turning the heads of young hotties , and inviting them to ride my "beast".

Actually, from years of both building high end (Loud) systems and competing in stereo competition (SPL) i've lost 60-70% in 1 ear and 30% in the other (the left ear is still good due to keeping the ear plug in that one. Used to loosley put the right one in so I could hear the sound to compete). My last competition car used to blur vision and make my heart do funny things. I do alarms in cars now.

I am sorry but I have to say that anything over 75db in any frequency range is just excessive. once your vision starts blurring, you should take that as a hint.

I rode with a Mexican friend of mine a couple of times...that...his bass disrupted my Gastrointestinal cavity...I was in horrible shape for the latter half of the school day, and my bowel movement wasn't much better afterwards...just..shook everything up.

Sorry for the graphic nature..lol its true!

I was competing in USAC Street Class -w- 2 Kove Audio Armaggedon M 12's and 1 1100 watt Memphis Studio mono amp. Car hit 150.8 db's. I got picked up by Memphis not too long after that, switched to MOJO 12's and went down to 150.5. There is definitly such thing as too much. I've toned the car way back now. I'm running 1 MOJO -w- the 1100 watt Memphis. Car still does 130. Not too bad, but I'm done -w- SPL. Working on a SQ car now -w- a WILD video system.

One of my buddies has a system in his wrangler that made someone vomit from sitting inside it on full blast.

FWIW, the military has subsonic emitters they use for crowd control and nonlethal applications. I don't know the frequency, and I certainly don't claim to be an expert, but it causes disorientation, gastrointestinal upset, and vision disturbances, among other symptoms.

Sound familiar?

They say there Nonlethal but I have my doubts. Anythink that short circuits the nervous system can kill you.

Yep, they *claim* it's nonlethal ;-)

Rubber bullets can cause a lot of damage, too, and they're supposed to be nonlethal.
