OK! So the kids barrowed the truck without permission or knowing it was disassembled so I took a chance and finished hookinh the hoses back up and added the Lucas P/S fluid which had helped the leaky seals. I thought it was dead but after filling it full it came back to life (BUT) when starting it cold the thing sounds like a supercharger for the first minute or so. What kind of life is left in it. I was going to replace it but it is working right now.
That is one of the good reasons for disconnecting the battery when you are working on a vehicle.
The pump is shot. Right now it is tearing the hell out of the rest of your system components. Replace it, flush the system, add a return line filter in the system, and keep your fingers crossed.

The return line is your low pressure fluid return back to the pump. The rubber return line is cut and the filter is placed in the line much like a fuel filter. Since your system is full of trash from the pump get two filters (about $16 each) and replace the first filter after a week or so. It may save you a PS unit and another pump, and another pump...
