I have a 99 f-350 4x4. I was told theres nothing special to removing the front rotors. I have removed tire, other eight nuts, brake pads and caliper and what I would call the caliper housing. nothing will move yet. Do I have to do somthing with the locking hub assembly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
on my 01 they just slide right off, there may be a little rust or dirt holding them on, maybe give em a tap from behind with a rubber malet or a piece of wood
Yea - mine come off the same way Wlihntr's do - sometimes the heating and cooling of the rotors can make them stick too along with the rust and nastiness that builds up around them!
Mine won't come off for crap, I've taken the wheel hub assembly apart along with the lock ring and washers and it still wont move. Acts like there something behind it holding it.
Just last week I replaced my front rotors on my late '99 350 and after you take the tire then 8 nuts off it will take a heavy hammer or mallett to rap it from the backside of the outer flange alternating 180*. You DO NOT have to disassemble the locking hub assembly. Then after the hub is off much the same stubborn process may be necessary to remove the rotors. They will come off though.
u prolly already thought of it, but soak her down with some penatrating fluid
around the hub (where the big hole on the rotor slides over/in) it will take
awile for it to eat all of that crap but eventually it will, somewhat. Then beat
the hell out of it with a good heavy rubber mallet, the shot filled one's work
well, really put a hard blow to it!
