Question Flashing Lights!!

Hey Guys..

I'm a new member to this cool site. I've been surfing for a while and figured it was about time to post a thread.

I've just encountered a problem with my Explorer this afternoon..

As I was driving home from work, I noticed the 4X4 High and Low lights were flashing in my cluster (both at the same time). They seemed to flash 5 or 6 times at two to three minute intervals. Does this indicate a problem? Perhaps transfer box fluid level or maybe a sensor? I've also noticed that the 4X4 Selector switch doesn't seem to have an effect. It certainly doesn't light up the corresponding light in the cluster!

Please help, if any of you guys have experienced this problem or perhaps you know the solution...

It also has an annoying (unrelated) problem of a buzzing sound that comes through the left door speaker, when I close the windows, select reverse or lock the steering. Any ideas? Oh yeh, and my alarm doesn't operate. Can anyone tell me where it's located? I'm trying to see if it has been disconnected (I haven't had the car too long)....

Cheers Guys in anticipation

Max

I checked the level in the trasfer box and it seemed pretty low.. I dropped the fluid and filled it with new..

Unfortunately the two lights are still flashing (six times a minute for three minutes.. a five minute delay, then a repeat of the cycle). Because of the cycle, would I be right in saying this is indicating a fault (rather than it being an intermittent problem)?

I'm unsure if the 4 wheel drive is all working. I'm gonna have to check that one.

Any advice guys??? Please...

Thanks Max

The flashing lights are indicating a fault and not just intermittent. Possible fixes are cleaning the 2 speed sensors (not the Vehicle Speed Sensor), clean the shoft motor connections. Worst case scenario is usually a bad shift motor but I would try cleaning the aforementioned parts first.
