Hello I have an 86 ford ranger with a four cylinder engine in it. I am going to be getting a new muffler. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could give some input on different mufflers and what they would sound like.
Hey, welcome to FTE (Ford Truck Enthusiasts). Well it really depends on what kind of sound your looking for....Some people like the loud sound of cherry bombs....While other's like the growl of Flowmasters...Let us know what kind of sound your looking for,....and mods done to it? Or are you just looking for anything to put on there thats cheap? Anyway, good luck
I Had An 88' T-bird Turbo Coupe, W/2.3l Engine. I Had 40 Series Flowmasters On It That Ran Out The Back With Megs Tips. It Sounded Good, For A Four Cyl, And 100% Better Than An Import With A Coffee Can Muffler. The Car Was Pretty Heavy For The Engine, But The Turbo Helped To Compansate. Overall, I Was Happy With The Sound.
My bro has a 4 banger S-10, I believe he put Gibson muffler on it...sounds pretty good loud too...Think he put headers on it too...It would be louder if you cutt of the cats too...If the state you live doesnt have any laws on that kinda stuff. But pretty much any free-flowing exhaust will sound good on a 4banger...Flowmasters do have a good sound, on any engine....but the muffler itself will run you about 80-90 bucks....Ive heard people on here getting some really good cheap mufflers on ebay for like half the price. It might be a good idea to hit your local muffler shop, see what they say....Unless you plan on doing it yourself....Maybe you could do a search on FTE, for exhaust systems for 4banger engines...Im sure then you will fine what your looking for....And good luck
