I am looking into ordering a set of Boyd Coddington 3/4 tons wheels but I noticed they only make a 16.5 x 9.75. I will mostly use the truck for highway use but occacionally I head out to the sand dunes. I have been told, the 16.5 wheels are not designed to be air down at a low PSI. Is this true? I won't do any serious offroading in the sand. I just need to get in and out with a 7,000lbs toy box trailer.
I have a 6" lift and I want to run some 36" Super Swampers TSL SX, or IROK, Possibly TRXUS STS. Is it difficult to find tires for 16.5 x 9.75 wheel or should I stick with a 16 x 10 wheel?
16.5 rims lack the safety bead. 15, 16 and 17 rims are better. In your application 15" rims won't fit unless you grind your calipers down. Which can be done but I wouldn't do it. I would stick with the 16" or 17" rim size. Yes there is more of a selection for the 16.5's especially in the Super Swamper brand. Iroks come in 16 and 17" sizes though. If your gonna air down on the dunes which is recommended, I would stay away from the 16.5" rims unless you get bead locks.
