in replacing my carpet in my van i noticed a large hole on the passenger side front. also a lot of heat coming through there from the exhaust pipe going by underneath. i'm concerned about the hot floor. if i drive it 20 min or so it gets too hot to touch the metal floor . is that normal? (capret is removed) i noticed ford put what looks like a heat tolerant fabric on the floor pan under the carpet there, so maybe its ok? seems too hot to me. any ideas? anybody had their carpet up lately? i'm gonna fashion a patch out of sheet metal from the hardware store and pop rivet it in. any thoughts? does the bottom of the van need a heat shield from that exhaust pipe? mine doesn't have one? concerned in ohio rick

I would have to say your floor is way to hot. Is that hole from rust?
Just off hand I would check for a hole in your exhast pipe or maybe
you have lost a heat shield. I would run out and look at mine but
I just left it and my kids with my parents for a couple of days.
The floor should not get to hot to touch! I'm betting a heat shield
rusted and fell off. Somebody on the forum will look at theirs I hope
before you have a fire.
when my cats went out, they were getting way hot on the pass side floor, by the middle bench seat. we had a bottle of water there, and it was so hot it was steaming when we opened it.
i would guess the cats if that is where your heat is..
now i have all of the old front carpetout , the floor seems hot on drivers side too! gonna get pipes checked by midas when they aren't too busy. i don't want to walk in with a dollar sign on my forehead. when the cats are going bad doesn't the engine act up?.. mine is still running smooth. ?i also found more rust on drivers side. guess i got some work to do this weekend. rick
