I have been looking at putting a remote car starter into my 97 explorer with an alarm and anti theft system. One thing I noticed when pulling the steering column cover off, there were a couple wires connected to the lock tumbler. One had one wire on it and looked like it tied into the air bag harness. The other had 2 wires coming out of it and don't know where it led to. I think this may be the anti theft system but don't know for sure. (I don't have the blinking THEFT light on my dashboard either). I also want to know what the heck the GEM module controls. I read it controls everything in the truck, but would like to be a little more informed about it.
Does anyone know of a good website that has wiring diagrams on this truck at all? I have been searching for about an hour now and cannot find a thing.
'89 F-250 w/ 351W auto, making a very complicatied situation as brief as I am able to here is my problem, (well one of them anyway!!) steering column was replaced and during the time it was down I decided to remove the aftermarket alarm system which was on the truck when I bought it, reason being is the truck had no keys when I bought it and the alarm system was the only way to lock/unlock it - I ended up tring my key from my previous 89 F-250 w/460 which an idiot hit me with his 1 ton (another story) and the key fit and so I cut the siren from the alarm and that helped but then I kept getting locked out by the alarm system and it was driving me nuts because I usually have the keys in the truck ( duh ) anyway the dash flasher is removed and the brain of the alarm , just adjustable sensor is left on. Problem it won't start with the key and cross the silinoid it cranks but won't start, which wires are holding me up? Seems like one to the starter but not sure, any help is deeply appreciated. Was told it was anti-theft but I thought this was after market because my other 89 which was identical to this one did not have one.
keep on FORDN'
