02 Explorer questions

Hi guys. I'll get right to it. I bought a used 02 Exp. with 51 k on it. I have no idea what was done to it or what was not done. I already have an 02 that I have done all the prevenative stuff to. Anyway, I live in Birmingham, AL and drive it to Atlanta, GA everyday (about 250 miles for those who don't know). It is all highway miles. I have noticed that sometimes when I pull up to a stop light or red light it kind of acts like it wants to die then does fine. I'm pretty sure a new fuel filter will fix that. My question for the expert masses is, What should I do to this thing? Do I need to change the coolant, trans. fluid, rear end dope, etc.? Any suggestions, questions, or answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

To get rid of the stumbling, clean the throttle body valve (both sides) with carb cleaner.

I got 2 fords 91 explorer and 95 areostar. From my experience I am told to change rad coolant and thermostate every 2 years. to prevent anti-freeze turning into acid in the system. this seems to be important . other than that 60,000 change trany fluid, and rearend fluid if you want. since you dont have a history of maintanace. change spark plugs, air filter, engine oil, give a lube job, check brakes, and maybe even check for ball joint and tie rod wear. My friend has a "01 with 110,000 kms and the lower balljoints were toast allready.

enjoy your new toy.
