My 1992 F350 keeps getting air in the fuel system, cleaned tank, new fuel pump put on already. It runs good for a while then it dies, they when i push the valve stem in above the fuel filter housing a bunch of air is released. I can't figure out where the air is comming from. Help i have been working on this truck for about 3 wks, know. It runs for about 10 miles then it shut's off and will not turn on until i take the air out.
look for anywhere the fuel line could be rubbed through, my dad's 84 pulled that on us, it had rubbed through under the inner pass. fenderwell. I am currently battling one myself, but I know where the source is, just have to take care of it. I had found the water separator disconnected, didn't know why, so I recconnected. Now when I fire it up, a moment later, it starts to sputter, then runs out of fuel. I tgenerally fires up again after enough cranking (ouch) and goes, so it is one of my need to get done items. At this time, though, it is my workbench while I pull the motor out of the father in laws T-9 dozer. With all the rain not getting much done though.
One guy I work with had a problem with his diesel getting air in the lines, and it ended up that the seals around where his fuel pickup entered his tank were dry rotted and cracked, so air was getting in around there too....
I would venture to go with this thought ... Everything from the tank to the lift pump is vacuum - pulling air into the system After the lift pump is pressure. OR thru the return line fittings and caps and recycling the air in the system.
