well i tore down my brakes the other day to check them out.. was gona replace the pads and turn the rotors but the brakes are all very recent.. i thought the squeling from the front end and the back brakes locking up meant they were worn out.. but n e ways i returned all the new brakes i baught before hand.. but i still cant figure out y the back brakes keep locking up.. also my abs light will stay on some days and go off others.. but either way the back end wants to lock up.. so i did some adjusting thro the little hole at the bottom of the brake drum.. not sure wut its called.. but it controls the distance the pads sit at not applied.. n e ways i got them so i couldnt hear the pads rubbing n e more.. after both sides were done i turned the rear end over bye hand and every half a revolution it grabbed a bit.. does this mean i got wrapped drums maybe pads??? or could i just resurface the drums and put new pads in? its not even safe to drive in the rain.. the thing locks up to easy n not to mention likes to slide.. n e help would be great.. thanx!
Check your shoes and drums for ecessive brake dust or oil contamination. Also check your wheel cylynders. If every thing checks out OK take some sand paper and scuff up the brake shoes a little. Finish up by spraying the shoes and drums off with brake cleaner.
yea i would check for axle grease contamination, im drivin aroun right now, i have no right rear pads because of the broken axle seal but im just buyin time till i can fix it but yea check the axle seal or the wheel cylinder
When you adjust the rear brakes, the shoes (that's what they're called with drum brakes) should be rubbing slightly against the drum. When they only rub at certain points, it means they're not adjusted properly. It doesn't necessarily mean the drums are warped. BTW, that little wheel with the notches in it is called the starwheel.
As for the locking up, the ABS light flashing should be a message to you to get it to a brake shop and have the ABS codes pulled. A good shop will do all the diagnosis for free.
thanx for the replys and the info on brake parts.. haha n e ways the brakes are fine now.. the abs light does not flash.. just stays on some days.. today it was off and i could slam the brakes on witout locking up.. these fords are very unpridictable.. use to own chevy.. this thing fixs itself some days.. n e ways im gona pick up a superchip so i'll use that to check codes also.. thanx again for the replys. Im not as worried about the brakes now.. they have gotten better.
