Please help identify motors!

Please help identify motors!
I recently acquired two motors from my grandfathers old shop. Both motors are older FEs. How can I identify them for sure? One of them I'm told is a 428. The other is a 390 I believe. Are there block numbers or bell-housing numbers that will help me? What numbers am I looking for? Thanx!!!

Just for starters block ID,C6AE-A,C6AE-B,C6AE-F,C6ME,C6ME-A,C7ME,C7ME-A,C7ME-C
C8ME,,,I dont have the complete list I dont think? but that amy get you started on the 428 block #s,, and sometimes you have to pull a freeze plug out to see 428 inside the water jacket..

And Like Greg said..pull 1 and 4 plugs and measure the stoke..bring #1 up to TDC...that will put #4 at BDC..and then mearsure the distance between the pistons with a wooden dowl..or something you can mark with a marker..Russ
