High end issue

I recently (November 03) bought a very slightly used 01 Ranger "Edge", (only 28K), and not that I speed all over the place, but happened to be pushing 90 on a stretch of highway, and noticed what I can only describe as a stutter, or shudder in the engine performance, so I can only assume there is some sort of Limiter on my truck. This is the 3rd Ford Truck I have owned, I've loved them all, and would just like to know that if I "needed" to go 100 + or so I could. (mainly I just hate that there is someone, or something else telling me I can't)

On my 2001 and 2002 the limiter kicked in at 92mph. I could not hit 100 even going down the grapevine in CA.

Eaxctly, I was downhill, and was barely using the gas. Very frustrating.

I have an 01 Edge, reg cab with the 4.0, 5 speed. I didn't know it at the time but that is the only year you could get that combo.
