I was at a friends house Friday night just hanging out with a bunch of friends. As I go to back my truck up to the fire all I hear is "pss pss pss". Turns out theres a 2 inch slash in my sidewall. I thought that it was just a piece of metal but its too straight, too close to the rim, and too clean to be anything but a KNIFE!! There goes $140 right there. I'm P'ed Off.
Sorry for the rant, but I needed to get it off my chest.
Ugh, I hate senseless vandalism. Years back in my high school days, we once had a bunch of teenagers from another school come up to our neighborhoods and knocked out each and every car window on two or three blocks, including one where we were at. I think they were caught.. I don't remember the outcome but I think it was something like $20,000 worth of damage in total.
I took it to a Firestone dealer today to confirm that it was a knife cut (which it was) and the guy said they recently got a new way of fixing holes in sidewalls. So an hour later my beloved tire was back on my truck. They even switched it around on the rim so the bald outside of the tire in now on the inside. Good people there!
Oooo. I'm glad they have a new way of fixing the sidewalls, but if I were you, i'd keep the 'bad' side on the outside. Reason: it's easier to see if it's having a problem. We have a 78 van that my dad kept good tires on, and he always religiously checked them. We were up in Canada, and had a rear blowout at 65mph! the ENTIRE inside of the tire was blown-out, turns out it was dry-rotted, but being on the inside we couldn't see it. If it had been a front-tire.... Sidewalls are inherently the weakest part of the tire, it pays to keep an eye on BOTH sides, especially if you have a known problem.
Last year some punk kid whipped a rock through my back window and hit the inside of the windshield. I bought a back window at a junkyard and the front window is still samshed. I dont see it though cause its on the passenger side, i still have the rock for some reason in my ashtray. Someone keeps taking the air out of tires as well, it happened 3 times in the last 5 months. Im wondering if they were slashed if the insurance company would buy me new ones, when new they are $425 Canadian a tire. Wouldnt be bad as they are completly bald.
My red truck was keyed at my highschool parking lot once, all the way down one side. My truck was dirty and I didn't notice for a day or two until I was at the carwash and saw it. Man was I ticked off and I've never found out who it was. I just never told anyone about it and that I was ticked (so the person wouldn't find that I was aggitated and make it more enjoyable for 'em) so within a week it was repainted and looked like new again.
