What methods do you use to remove the super duty mag wheels?
These things have been one for abought a year now.
I tryed to remove the rear tires to install mud shields but the wheels are stuck, the tolerance looks so tight between the mag wheel and axle hub that with a little dirt or corrosion and they're going to be hard to get off.
I've never had the problem - but I was in a tire place not too long ago and saw them using a BFH to wail away on the tire of a Superduty to get the wheels off - just make sure you don't miss and hit the rim. They switched back and forth to each side of the tire and after about 10 wacks the wheel came off.
Most of the time we use a BFH on the tire to brake the rim loose. In the future use an "Anti seize" or high temp disk brake lube around the hub. Also with aluminum rims it is best to use a torque wrench on the lug nuts.
I had the very same problem with my new 04 with just 3k on it. I went to rotate the tires and shure enough, stuck. Although I dont own a "BFH", I used some wd40 in between the face of the rim and the rotor, just inside one of the rim holes and around where the rim center hole and rotor meet.
Be carefull to not get any on the disk or the pads though. After a half an hour or so, I was able to sit on the ground and use my legs to rock the tire and rim loose. Of course, make shure your rig is on stands or you may find it on the pavement.
I had two out of the four that were that way. Both on the back, go figure.
After they were off, I cleaned and put some paint on the face of the rotor in hopes that it would'nt happen again.
I had this problem on my girlfriend's dad's Jeep pickup several times. Take a grinder and carefully grind a little off between the hub and the rim at an angle. No more stuck rims.
I don't like using a BFH. Afraid of missing and damaging something. I spray penetrating oil around the center at the hub and let it set for awhile. Then loosen the lug nuts about a turn and shake the truck sideways. If its really sturbborn, start the engine and move the truck slowly and rock the steering wheel back and forth. When your done, clean the hub and wheel center with fine emory paper and install with coating of anti-seize where the wheel and hub meet.
I had the stuck wheel problem on my wifes expadition, it took wd40, a bfh, and a 10' 4x4 post as a prybar! When it did finally let go it shot about off about 8 feet away! I use anti-seize now too.
I had the same problem with mine at 4k miles. If you put a thing coating of anti seize were the rim meets the hub, you'll never have to go through that again.
