351 or 400?

351 or 400?
How can I tell if my '79 F-250 has a 351 or a 400 in it? According to the guy I bought it from, the engine has been overhauled and or replaced four times since the company bought it. As we all know, most companies don't care what was done as long as the truck runs when it comes back from the shop, and the bill wasn't too bad. The valve cover on the drivers side says it is a 6.6L. But I belive the cover could come off of anything in the 335 family. Correct? Can I simply drop a rod into the spark plug hole and measure the stroke to see if it is 3.5" or 4.00". Looking for any info on the subject. Thank you!!!
