i want to wash my engine. car wash has engine wash detergent, slow yellow soapy stuff,, how do u do it.. spray stuff on, let soak,, spray off but not too hard? want under my hood to look as good as the outside. tx
Wouldn't use car wash for engine. Engine and parts in area needs to be cold for one thing. And- That's just too much water around electronics.
Unless you mean taking an engine about to be rebuilt, and take it in the bed of a truck/trailer.
Consider using something like 'Engine-Brite', (spray cleaner) available all over the place, follow instructions on can, you'll probably need several cans.
It's not the most powerful cleaner compared to something like carb cleaner, but much less likely to do damage with it.
i have sprayed mine off at the car wash many times and no problems at all. but am even better way is to have it steam cleaned, especially if it has a distributer
best stuff i ever used for cleaning engines is just plain spray on oven cleaner just spray it on your engine and drive around until the engine gets good and hot then rinse it off
I wouldn't even consider spraying water into the engine compartment on purpose. That's just asking for trouble. It's an engine, it's supposed to be dirty.
But since I'm guessing your going to do it no matter what is advised in this thread, then at least use your garden hose at home vice the pressure washer. And be sure the engine is cold. Cover the plugs and coil(s) and be sure not to soak the air filter. Make sure the caps to all the fluids are on tight so you don't get water somewhere it's not supposed to be.
