'99 Explorer Sport. Rear wiper stopped working with no warning (completely dead). Washer pump works fine. Anyone know which fuse connects the rear wiper? Manual lists fuse for front, but does not specify rear. Any additional suggestions other that fuse? How can I test the motor? Hoping that the motor itself hasn't died.
Heh. Mine works and the pump still works, but it is so mis-aligned that maybe 1/16th of the back window actually gets cleaned off I need to fix that stupid wiper.
The rear wiper on my explorer did the same thing - went to the back and manually moved it with the switch on and it started working. Also, you can bend the wiper to better fit the window - this will fix the partial wiping.
Count me in also .... my 99 sport did the same .. I took it to the dealer and they told me they couldnt find anything wrong .... gotta love dealer mechanics ... Lemme know what it is ...
Ok One more time The motor comes loose from the mounting bracket causing a misalighment and loss of ground hence wiper doesn't work or incompletely wipeing on the rear glass. My dealer covered the repair on a 98 in 2001 on warrenty. If they willnot cover it on warrenty it is a easy fix.
One of the posted suggestions to my problem was to turn on the rear wiper and then try and physically move the wiper arm while turned on. I did this and it worked. Has been working fine ever since. Thanks to mark6389 for the tip.
yes moving the wipe manually will make it work again but for a short time. that is a sign of the motor going bad. and yuuo will be moving it every time you want to use it
If the blade doesn't clear the rear window completely. you can try to bent the arm a little (to much the wiper will get caught in the glass) if bending the arm doesn't work you need a new arm, cause the spring it the arm went bad. if you can change a wiper blade you can change the arm!!
there is also a switch in the hatch door.....if it is ajar, the motor will not work, but this should be indicated on the dash indicator.
There could also be a loose ground inside around the motor???
Some posts are correct about breaking it free while it has power to it. If left sitting in the hot sun without being used, the plastic rest becomes soft and can settle. Then when you try to use it, it is stuck. I found this on a 99 exp that came from Denver.
