i have a 97 Xlt V8 AWD, currently i have what i believe to be a lazy lifter. if i am correct a failure like this will wiope out my 5.0 which gives me an excuse to completley replace the Cylinder heads. i would like to know what you have gone with or what would be reccommended for the best performance gains with a total cost of under $500 for both heads. any input would be greatly appreciated.. thank you
Sorry for taking so long. I just saw your comment in my gallery, and I can't reply there.
For heads, if I were working with $500, I would take my factory heads off and have then ported/polished. Being a 97, you could have either GT40 heads or GT40P's - which are good heads for an Explorer setup. Now, if you were going to supercharge it and change the bottom end, cam, etc. out, I would choose something different. But they would cost a lot more also.
I think you will finding having your stock heads checked and polished will be your best bet for the price you are looking at. I understand how going to school is...
alright thanks for your reply but as it works out i am going to UTI so i can port and polish the heads for around $100 because this is somthing i have done recently at school. so i guess this is the best option
