Rusted or cable coming apart causing it to stick? Just a few thoughts. How old is it and has not been in use for a while?

i think its more gummed up inside the tube, but i don't know how to get it off. I would like to take the cable end out of the tube and clean them both really good. But, when I try to loosen the nut where the cable goes into the tube the whole cable turns so i can't get enough turns on it to disconnect it. If i could get that connection loose i might be able to beat the cable end out of the tube.

How old are the cables on the old JonnyRude? They recommend replacement after about 10 years, as they tend to get sticky and stiff, not to mention any rubbing or chafing can cause them to snap. NOTHING sucks quite as bad as doing an unexpected 180 degree turn while at full speed. Good way to fling any passengers out, along with any gear. Not to mention, you're guaranteed to need a change of shorts...
