I'm fairly new to my Explorer, and the radio wasn't part of the vehicle, so I got one for a Ranger, and when I went to plug it in, the power side of the plug fits, but the speaker side is not the same. The radio is set up for a plug like the power plug, but the vehicle side is a small square shape. Does anybody know if there is an adapter for this?
Can you give us more information about your X, such as year, model trim? If you have the Ford/JBL system, then the plugs will definitely not match because the plugs are different between the JBL and the Premium system.
I guess that would have helped...year: 92 trim: XLT...and the radio is out of a Ranger, the year of which I am still trying to determine. I got it on Ebay. I found an audio wiring diagram online and am going to attempt to match wires in between the two odd plugs to see what happens. The new radio, from what I see in the owner's manual, is the standard stereo cassette radio. The original window sticker, which came with the vehicle when I bought it, shows the radio as being :RADIO ELEC PREM W/CASS/CLOCK (listed as part of an option package)
Make sure that the plugs you see aren't for an after-market radio. These plugs might be for an adapter, if you pull the wiring out, you might find the original OEM connectors......just a thought.
The vehicle had an aftermarket radio that the former owner wanted to keep. I pulled the radio myself and the adapter harness came out with it. The plug I am talking about is in the wiring diagram here: http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Ford-Wiring.pdf
in the "amplified" radio wiring harness drawing. It's the square plug. I need to adapt from that square plug to the one with the prongs all laid out in a straight line.
From what the guy at Best Buy told me today, I have "a factory amp in the system and I have to bypass it"??? or, something like that. So, I guess I either go with a different radio or I figure out how to wire it to the existing system.
