In my 92 302 there is what sounds to be light valve tap during warm up and then when cruising around 2kRPM but absent during accleration. Is this diagnosis accurated? How hard of a fix is this?

It sounds like a bad lifter. Could be valves out of adjustment. It probably is still making the noise during acc. just cant hear it. I assume that engine is non adjustable rocker arms. If so, there are a few different ways you can go about "adjusting" the valves. I would start by checking all my valve clearances, and checking for a lifter that is bleeding down while you are doing it.

I have heard of some people having the same problem here, and well it's just something that people live with, if it's just valve tap, which sounds like your problem. This just means there is some slack in the valvetrain. The factory rockers are not adjustable (to my knowledge). maybe you might try to figure out if it's only one and switch it with another until they are quiet? Personally, even though I have an extremely low budjet, I like to do things right, and would replace the pushrods (pretty cheap) and the rockers, (I paid 200 for a performance larger ratio of 1.7 roller rockers from Crane Cams which I'm very happy with.) But maybe someone else will chime in with a problem that this might be a warning of??... anyone?
