speedometer
when i am driving my speedometer says 35 or 40 but it actually feels like i am going much less (more like 25 or 30) does that mean that the speedometer is reading incorrectly and it's time to replace? or is that just the way it is with the van?

1991 and earlier Aerostars without the digital dash use a cable driven speedometer. There is a problem with incorrect readings as you describe, usually prevalent in cold weather due to thickening of the needle damping fluid in the speedometer head. Usually the problem resolves once the fluid warms. If your problem continues after warm up, then you may have other issues. The cable is gear driven from the transmission - calibrated for final drive ratio of the rear end differential. If either your transmission or rear end has been replaced at some point in the past, there may be an incorrect calibration.
