No help from dealer. I have a 2001 7.3 X with 50k. Dealer and another shop could not pull up any codes. The vehicle stalls intermittently, usually at low speeds when coasting to a stop. One time it stalled at 15 to 20 MPH when going down a 6 degree slope (foot off gas while breaking). Have to place in park and restart. This has happened approximately a dozen times over the last year. The fuel filter has been replaced and fuel additive. Dealer has kindly offered to diagnose problem by systematically replacing every part under the hood. Help!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I don't know if our problems are related or not but every since I programmed my X with the Diablo programmer it will unexpectedly stall or burp once in awhile when idling to a stop or starting from a stop. I checked this theory out after three weeks of this by reinstalling the factory program and the problems went away! Now I reprogrammed for towing mode and the issue is back again! It has never totally killed the engine but it still concerns me. Any one else have an issue after programming? btw- the first time I programmed for the 60 HP economy tune.
You could try the CPS, go to an Internation dealership and don't get hosed by Ford. International sells them for around $95 and Ford is double. My wifes 00 X started to do the same thing a while ago, it would stall going to a stop and run with a miss sometimes. One day it would'nt start and had to be towed home (thanks AAA) after the tow truck guy dropped it off it fired right up and pulled it in the garage and replaced the sensor, that was a few months ago and so far so good.
BTW, I saw a test done a while back on several different chip brands on www.ford-trucks.com, they tested boost, hp and exhuast temps. They tested a few different Diablo chips and the temps got hot really really fast! They would have been the worst chips tested of the 15 or so. I forgot to bookmark it but do a search and you'll find it. The Western Performanc chip did the best boost with 27 pounds. Stock the boost was 15 pounds.
a. Are very old. Every company in the test still in business isn't even using the same tunes anymore.
b. The test methodologies were flawed. Oil temps should have been taken between each pull and the pull done at the same temps.
c. The test was conducted at one of the chip vendor's dealers.
d. The company you mentioned (removed) didn't even write their own tunes then though if you heard them on the phone they would have said they did. They resold chips, putting their name on them, and even going so far as spray painting the chips blue. Ask me privately why they aren't allowed here.
e. With chips, brand isn't the factor. Tune selection is. Depending on what the programmer gives you, the same brand can give you a great results, or horrible results.
Concerning the Diablo programmer, is the truck getting any codes when the problem happens, such as a CPS related code? It sounds like a CPS problem but there's no point in throwing money at it if its not....
I am getting no codes when the problem occurs. (I call it a hickup) The truck has stayed running each time so far but doesn't feel too good when you start depressing the accelerator and have it shut down on you for a half second before coming to life.....kinda like being on a scaffold board where they overlap and stepping off the first 1 1/2 inch board doesn't feel too good either.
This issue does not seem to have any regularity to it at all. Most of the time start/stops go as expected.....then it will catch me when I don't expect it. I replaced my CPS last summer when it shut down my truck on me. I suppose I could be having another one go bad!? I now carry a spare in the glove box.
Most of the times when the CPS goes bad it does not throw codes, 1 out of 10 times it will throw a code. If you replaced the sensor last summer it could be bad again, if you have a spare it would be worth trying it to see how it runs. There are a couple other sensors that could be bad too. I've got 158K on my 99 F250 and it's still got it's original CPS. The X was replaced at 114K.

I am having the exact same issue. Seriously considering sending unit back for refund. Not very impressed with performance.
I don't want to throw the new CPS in the x as the problem has gone away each time I've gone back to the factory programming. I think of this issue as more of an annoyance more than anything else and I should talk to the folks at Diablo and ask their advise. I had one of their chips in the truck for over a year but wanted the programmer for its' flexibility in programming as well as its' diagnostic capabilities. I think the folks at Diablo are good people and would probably like to know if one of their customers(or more) are having issues.
Unless I get into more serious trouble with it......I'll probably live with it.
Anyone have anything new to add to this discussion thread? I have continued to have problems while in a programmed mode but the problems go away when I reinstall the factory programming with the Diablo Tuner.
I have been getting some codes....watching a little closer now. The theft code has come up....the exhaust pressure code is always one of them....OBD System setting code?? Some others that escape my tired brain this evening too.
I have had the truck stall twice now when attempting to leave an intersection but as I said the problems goes away when I reinstall the factory tune.
Also...I am not experiencing any increase in mileage with the 60 hp performance tune....even when I really watch my driving habits! I don't know where to turn with this issue with Diablo...any and all advise is welcome.
