Hey Chris -
Thanks for the info, you're the big #102 on the registry. Here's how your VIN breaks down:
F10 - F100
J - 223 6cyl.
0 - 1960
R - San Jose assy. plant
31610 - unit number
118" Wheelbase
W - color (I'm lazy and can't remember what the W code is)
F100 - the reiterates the model #
"263" is probably "26B", which would be February 26, 1960 when it was built. The unit # is about right for February from the San Jose plant. They really cranked them out there and the Kansas City plant.
A - 3spd light duty trans.
01 - 3.70 rear end
Hope this gives you a little extra background on you truck. It makes it a little more personal when you know its pedigree, and where it's been.

W is for adriatic green. http://www.boomspeed.com/mr4speedford/paintchips.jpg I scanned my original color chip chart. It's very large so 56K'ers be forwarned as it may take awhile! -4speed

Paint
Check this page out. The only thing I saw wrong is that 59 has meadow green and it wasn't on the colored chip page but was on the other info page.

I may have a chance to get possibly 2 57-60 F100's, one I know is for sale cause the owner has to return home. This ia a yellow 57 stepside, looks nice n clean. The second F100 is sitting in the front yard of a house close to a buddy of mine. It looks to be complete as far as body goes, but I haven't asked if it is for sale or not. Will try to find out this weekend.
If'n I do get these beauties I'll definately be posting them.

Hello All, I am a new member of FTE and a newbie when it comes to the 57-60 trucks. I am not new to Ford as I own a 49' F-2 and a 71' Bronco and then there is the newer daily driver that happens to be a Ford also. Well as the story go's, I fell in love with a 58' F-100 a few months back and couldn't resist adding it to the stable. She is a little bit rough but has great potential. The following is the VIN and Data Plate Codes for the Registry.
VIN - F10C8G22247
F10 = F100 Conventional Cab
C = 8cyl., 292, 2 Barrel, 158 Net. HP at 4000 R.P.M
8 = 1958 Model Year
G = Chicago Assembly Plant
Data Plate Codes
WB - 118 = 118" Wheel Base
Color - RE = Vermillion , Colonial White
Date - 11D = April 11 1957
Trans - B = 3 Spd Overdrive
Axle - 02 = 3.89 Gears
Max GVW - 05000
Cert. Net HP - 158
RPM - 4000
D.S.O - 3017
Every thing that I have come across so far says that the D.S.O is meaningless and was used by the Factory. If that is not the case, could some one please fill me in. Other tid-bits about the truck is that it has the chrome grill and windshield trim. locks on both doors. It also has the interior light, headliner, and there are holes in the door for the emblems so I believe it to be the Custom Cab. It is a Style Side. The overdrive cable and the column shift linkage is there but someone swapped out the transmission and overdrive with a T-98 4spd. The original engine is there and runs but will require a rebuild. All the Sales Literature I have seen doesn't show the 292 even being offered but My 1958 Ford Truck Parts and Accessories Catalog does list the engine. I am thinking that this engine might make the truck a little different from most and possibly specially ordered? I bought the truck from a Yard in Tucson Arizona in March and relocated it to Battle Creek Michigan in June. The only History I have on the truck is judging from the pile of receipts in the glove box, the previous owner used it to haul scrap metal. Well, I have rambled on long enough but do look forward to being part of the forum here.......Darren

DSO on the Rating Plate?
Whoop Ther ya go Darren, I'm counting the hot hot hot days till I can break it back home where it's green and there is water. I know you got some green up there in MI. How long were you in Tucson? I've been here 327 years! My unfortunate wife once mentioned it would be nice to have an old rust free truck from the Desert to take back home with us, she didn't know what she was starting. You know what the economy is like here , new money and old poverty, not much in between so even though we live here the 2 trucks I found were from other central desert reigons (east of the mountains) of the West. A 60 F100 intact and complete one family truck from central OR, and my current project, a 55 F250 with a rust free dent free intact Cab (we got a long way to go cause it needs some new exterior sheetmetal) from central CA. Now to be honest with you, even though I really want to go home, I can hardly bear the thought of exposing my old rust free trucks to the humidity. Have you kept the flathead in your 49, plan on keeping the Y-Block in your 58? do you mean you bought your newest truck out of a wrecking "yard"? If so maybe you know and can turn me on to the best yards in tucson for old trucks. I'm stuck on your question about the DSO #, my Book Cars and Parts Ford Truck ID Numbers for Pickups is silent on this? Will be interested in what is revealed in this Forum. Thx. David
