I went to the parts store for some new plugs and the guy told me .44 gap was the only gap he had listed for my truck. I'm using autolite 45 plugs. My manual says .34 to.36 I'm not sure which one is the correct gap.I have pionts so i'm thinking the larger gap, .44 would be for electronic igniction. Is this right? my truck is a 74 f100 360. any info would help Thanks.
I gapped mine at .035, as I understand it if you have a really hot coil setup you can run a bigger gap, but a smaller stock coil should be gapped conservitivly at .035 to insure a good hot spark.
I have stock stock stock aI dunno what the ratings are so i just erred on the side of caution, it runs pretty well now. I have points, i dunno if elecronic ignitions are stronger and need a bigger gap...
I run .044 + with msd coil and duraspark. You should run .035. If you put a hot coil msd says to run not more than+/- .008 more it create too much duty on the other componets ( rotor, cap and wires). Boosted engines should run smaller gaps and high ignition voltage.
I meant to say +/- .008 on the .044, which means on the low side it would be gapped at .036 and on the high side would be .052. On a .035 gap +/- .008 would be .027 and on the high side would be .043 gap. Sorry about that, I still experimenting with my set up and I may opening them up a little bit more from about .046. Wish me luck.
Too much of a gap will burn you other componets up faster, and to small of a gap could cause preignition. So be safe and stay with .035. And I will stay below .050. Good luck
OK....I'am glad we got that one taken care of? LOL!! IM tired..
Ya Sean..If ya run crap..ya get what ya pay for!!
I have seen guys when I was hot and heavy into it..buy ..back then,,$600 worth of ignition parts..and run resister plugs and wires, cause they didnt want noise on the car radio's...LMAO!!
I guess thats why I always had a tape deck!! LOL
