My second gear is GONE!
I have a 1994 B4000 4.0L (a severly gutless 4.0L) 53K manual transmission. I was driving today and my I got suck in second gear. When I got to a stop light I was able to get it out of second. When I tried to put it back into second, it was completely gone! All of the other gears are fine, including reverse. When in second, it acts just as if it were in nuetral, even with the clutch engaged.
Just wanted to get some ideas of problems before I tear into things. To me, it seems like an acuall tranny problem. I think if it were the clutch, all of the gears would be messed up. My guess is, I actually did lose second gear, not sure what happend to make it go though. There were no loud noises, no grinding, no crunching. Once I stopped the first time, I did not have to force it out of second. Now when driving, I don't here anything abnormal.
Any thoughs would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Here are some thoughts... Yeah, it's probably an actual transmission problem.
(Note: This info is for a '96 M50D transmission and may not apply)
Possible Source(s):
§ Internal components.
Action(s) to take:
§ REMOVE transmission. INSPECT problem gears, shift rails and forks and synchronizer for wear or damage. REPAIR as required. CHECK for broken fork slot tabs on single rail transmissions.
Possible Source(s):
§ Loose fork on rail.
Action(s) to take:
§ On single rail shift, CHECK for broken selector arm pin or selector plate. REPAIR or REPLACE as necessary.
