High idle when starting?

When I start my 2001 Explorer, the RPM's go to 2,000 then fall own to around 500. What causes this? I know it should rise when you start, but this seem excessive.

Dont worry its normal

My 2004 explorer does thi s too and its because the computer is trying to get the engine warmed up as fast as possible. Also it helps circulate the oil and thin it out faster. So hakuna matata
