Well its been 4 months sinc the last problems I had with my truck so heres the new one for ya.
Went to work and truck ran like a champ but at the end of day went to start up and it ran like crap, ran really rough and 2 of the spark plug boots had come off the plugs some and I pushed them back on but it happened all the way home and still runs like crap and the boots keep popping off.
What could be making this happin and why? And what do I do to fix this problem. I have a 97' F150 4.6 V8 4x4 HELP
try putting some (if you haven't) dielectric grease inside the boot to make sure it slides on smoothly. sounds like maybe the boot is getting hung up and is under pressure and then finally pops off. do you have coil overs or traditional plug wires? I don't know my years.
Im not sure I still have the same plug wires on it from the factory, should these be replaced to stop the problem? I did use a little grease to get them back on when I changed the plugs out before.
If I change out the plug wires what kind should I use?
Before you spend $ on a new set of plug wires, try the dialectric silicone grease on the inside of the boot. This will cause it to slide onto the plug much easier. Then listen/feel for the connector that is inside the boot to actually "snap" onto the spark plug. Perhaps when the wires were reinstalled they were not pushed down far enough to "seat" or really connect back onto the spark plug. A small tube of the dialectric silicone is only $1.99 and most of the consumer parts places have it.
If you choose to replace all of the wires, strongly suggest using Motorcraft and again apply the dialectric silicone grease to the inside of the boots.
Don't forget to try Rockauto.com next time you need parts. They have started carrying genuine Motorcraft recently and their prices seem reasonable. Biggest plus is the UPS driver delivering stuff to the door.
