Exhaust temp ?

I have been searching through the archives and have not seen a questions like this yet.....I have a 95 F350 Crew cab with 233K miles and I pull a 10K+ 5th wheel. Recently added the 3" downpipe, gauges (ISSPRO) and an Edge Evolution tuner.

I installed my pyro meter pre turbo in the drivers side manifold at the bottom near the oil filter area. My problem is in stock mode pulling the trailer at 65-70mph I get readings of atleast 1300 and boost between 10-15. I have towed this trailer many thousands of miles before making any mods and never had any problems and no concerns. Now I have the gauges and I am all freaked out!! When I put the program in tow mode I do not really get any higher egt's but they are still over the magic 1250 melt down number I see alot. I never had a egt reading with factory downpipe, but the 3" should be cooler right?? Could the gauge not be calibrated properly? One note I had to replace the "brain box" for the guage and did not replace the guage.

I am going on a big trip to the Black Hills tomorrow and want to get others opinion on if I should trust the guage reading and make sure I keep it below the 1250......

The only way to verify the readings you are getting would be to hook up another temp gauge in parallel to check each other, or have a pyrometer to read it directly off the manifold, an infrared pyrometer. If you haven't had any problems yet, you may have a gauge that is slightly out of calibration, or you may be lucky. But the turbo should be running cooler with the round 3" replacing the pancake pipe.

What setting do you have the Edge set at? It should be at the lowest possible hp setting for towing

I have done runs in stock mode that have resulted in temps of 1300, when I have done runs with the Edge, I had it set in tow mode, running 65-70 with a similar temp of 1300 (but with much better performance and no gear hunting ie staying in overdrive no problem).

This might be your problem. Do you have a dealership or large truck repair service center that can put a infrared temp on it and compare the numbers??? Just tell them what you said "never had a problem but are going on a long trip and want piece of mine."

I had an Evo tuner and traded it away last month because it produced absolutely outrageous EGTs. Pre-turbo, I couldn't hold it below 1250 without backing off and on a hard run I saw it run up to almost 1,500. And with no trailer! So it's probably not your meter that's defective, trust your gauge, the Edge Evos run HOT EGTs and blow lots of smoke. Some smoke is cool, but not black clouds that black out an intersection. That's being a cop magnet!

I also hated the way the Evo tuner made my shifts- Not firm, but neck-snapping harsh.

I might have lost a MPG or two running the 100 HP program and I kept getting codes set for things like fuel pressure too high with the Evo.

I traded the Evo to someone for their Superchips 1705 MAX tuner and I'm much happier.
My EGTs don't get above 1250 now, even on an extended full-throttle blast, the 90 HP "mid" towing program has even more torque than the 1705s 110 HP program, with decent EGTs when towing our horses and about 3 MPG better than stock, empty I get about 22 at 70 MPH, cruise locked on. . I really hate to say it, but I really disliked my Edge Evo tuner.
