I just bought this 2001 Ford F250 4x4 Lariat with the 7.3 PSD on Wednesday. The rear axle tag reads:
S 409 H
L 73 10 5 1B1G
Could somebody break this code down for me? Basically, I'm looking to find what Dana number it is, whether it is open or limited slip, and the gear ratio. Any other info you provide is welcome too. Thanks.
3S is the Sterling Heights, Michigan Visteon (formerly Sterling) plant.
409H is the axle model and revision
3L 73 is a 3.73 ratio with Limited Slip
10 5 is 10.5" ring gear diameter
1B16 is the manufacturing date code for February 16th 2001.
It's an excellent rear axle. (full floater too.) It's about the equivalent to a Dana 70HD. The F350 duallies anf F450's have a Dana 80 (11.25" ring gear) and the F550's have a Dana S135 (14.38" ring gear). All good stuff.
