Ok, Im getting a little worn out by the serious harshness of my 99 Explorer Sport (52K miles). Its a loaded 4x4 model (big wheels, limited slip rear, etc). Its just very rough and Im wondering what people have done to clean up the harshness (if possible). I want to upgrade to bigger wheels with lower profile tires eventually so I need to soften the ride NOW before I jar my teeth out of my head. Sway bars? Shocks? Anything?

If you have 52,000 miles without changing the shocks I would think that that would be a good place to start. I've been seeing a lot of people talking about the Monroe shocks and how they are very good for the money. A lot of people seem to think they're even better than the overpriced Edelbrocks.
I agree, Monroe's all the way. My father replaced the stock shocks on his old '01 XLT (old because he bought a '03) with the Monroe's and the ride was awesome. He lives on a gravel road that has tons of ruts and the Monroe's were still great feeling when he traded it in after a year of driving on them. Most people I know that have they love them and that was why I suggested my father get them. JMHO.
Agree 100% on the Monroe REFLEX, not the sensatracs. Suggest you do the following. use the "archive" feature here to look em up, theres literaly dozens of threads on this, always good for an argument. when you're done with that, check out your tire situation, thats another can o worms, that starts with Fords insistence on A/T tires..what baloney that is...So also check out Monroe's website, and fool around for awhile with Tirerack. My Yoko's are simply superb! People are always willing to put their 2 cents in on this topic, but believe me we've been down this road many times..just settle in and surf around here and those other two, and you'll get everybodys point of view.
