my overdrive light is blinking and the code reads that i need a torque converter so i had a bts triple lock installed and now the light is blinking again. any suggestions?
i had the same issue. blinking overdrive light. i took it in and was worried the transmission was shot.
NOPE! It was the speed sensor. $20 part and all was good again.
Symptoms leading up to that were the speedometer not reading right. I would pull up to a stop-light and when i would go again the speedometer wouldn't move.
Additionally, if the engine was cold and warming up. when you would get to about 45 MPH the transmission would not shift gears and the engine would rev near 3500rpm's until you got to about 55mph.
i just bought the truck 5 weeks ago and the light started blinking when i pulled my 34' 5th wheel for the first time, so when the mechanic checked it out it read a 1728 code (converter slipping) so that is when i had the bts torque converter put in. within two days it started blinking again. also the previous owner said he had a converter installed in january of this year for the same problem (light blinking). any help would be very much appreciated.
Same thing happened to my 97. If your trans doesn't shift correctly it's most likely the speed sensor on the rear axle. When it goes the trans doesn't know how fast the truck is going so it doesn't know when to shift. Very easy fix $20 part and about 5 minutes to remove the one bolt that holds it in and wiggle it out of the rearend. Yeah the stock converters suck, but if you have an aftermarket one I don't think it would have gone up that fast.
He is not having a shifting problem, but the speed sensor is used to tell the pcm if the convertor is slipping or not, might just want to try replacing it reguardless. Because the pcm used the speedo sensor and the cps sensor to judge convertor slippage. If the speedo sensor is just starting to go bad, it could throw a code. Now with the E4OD it was a good idea to replace the convertor anyhow.
no, i'm not having a shifting problem, and actually i'm not having any problems at all, just the blinking light. i had it reset 2 days ago and so far it has not started blinking, but it probably will. i am going to replace the speed sensor. thanks again
