I was debating using one of the ones that can be found at JC Whitney. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ProductDisplay/s-10101/storeId-10101/p-298/c-10101/catalogId-10101.
I was thinking that it could be adapted for the starter to help it shed heat gained from the exhaust manifold. In the ad you can see that it is adjustable and I think it might fit over the starter. As for a heat shield, I am thinking of making one out of stock sheet metal...I just have to find a way to mount it.
Sorry about the link, it goes to a more confusing page at JC Whitney. It is actually called the "Cool Collar" and the Part # is ZX470800Y
I was thinking about the heat shield myself...Just going to make it out of stock sheet metal and strap it to the exhaust pipe. I like to paint it with high temp paint just so it won't rust away. The oil filter radiator I wouldn't think it would work because the starter isnt generating the heat. Need a air gap between shield and starter. I also need my heat shield for the converter because the heat has damaged my rubber flooring in cab.
Thanks for the info Hoov. Kind of expensive. I think I'll Just make a shield for it, maybe a pipe hanger like deal where it clamps around the tailpipe. Need to think about that some more.
