I'm putting a cat back exhaust on my 2004 V10. What are some other "cheap" upgrades I can do that will help produce a few more horsepower and also help with the MPG? These gas prices are killing me....
-- for those of you that helped me with my exhaust questions, thanks!
I filled the SD V-10 tank up on monday and drove too work all week in the Ranger.
I went out today and checked and the tank was still full on the SD!
How about that!
I know I'm asking for a miracle guys, but with gas prices the was they are every mile counts!!!!
More cold air in will help build more hp. More hp will let you drive a little less hard to achieve the same mph. You are never going to get 18 mpg with this engine though. A cold air intake, switching to all synthetics will help a bit. Keeping your air pressure in your tires up will help as will a canopy/shell/tonneau. A free flowing exhaust obviously to get the burned gasses out is helpful too. But the biggest difference in one guy's mpg to anothers is probably their right foot. Ken
try growing up in California just when muscle cars began their reign with a size 15 foot. I lived around the corner from the bay area's largest Cobra dealer. After school we would ride our bikes to the Ford stealership and drool over the 289 AC Cobras. When the 427 monster came out in like 65-66 it was all I could do to sleep at night knowing that car was less than 2 miles away. Then came the Mustang GT 350's, then the Boss 302's, the Boss 429's and on and on. The Mercury Cyclones, the Thunderbolts, man oh man, it was an awesome to be alive during those days. The bad thing was I was not driving age, and I had no money, bummer. But to be around during all the hp wars was amazing. Now, we are going through another era of hp wars, and I'm raising 6 kids, aint life grand ? Which is exactly why I could rationalize my V-10, I loved the technology, I wanted some power, but I had to be practical, so I drive a V-10 extended length van. Yea it gets 12-14 mpg, it also surprises the crap out of people at stoplights. Ken
Actually, if you want to get the BEST gas mileage, use a Grade B egg (thinner shell). They might be hard to find since they usually don't sell them in grocery stores.
