tie rod help
What actually goes bad with a tie rod end? I was wondering if I can buy polyurethane end boots and fix tie rod ends or what exactly these would help? Any information would be great thanks. Its a 79 D44 set up on a 95 F150 if that helps.

It's the ball/socket that goes bad. It wears out and becomes loose. Putting a new dust cover on a worn out joint is not going to solve the problem. Just replace the tie rod ends, it's not difficult and as long as it's not the long end, they don't cost a whole lot. The long end can be expensive.
